This is the most important step if you want to build a chicken house. You need to have a carefully laid out plan before you start your building project so that you can be sure that your finished coop will be what you want.

There are plenty of great chicken house plans available.

One of the typical mistakes that people make when building a chicken house for the first time is to make it too small. They often miscalculate the amount of space inside the structure because they forget to factor in the feeders, perches and other elements that also have to go inside. Once these are added, the inside of the chicken house will feel a lot more crowded than intended.

The best way to avoid this common mistake is to create a blueprint of the chicken house before starting the construction process.

Step Two: Positioning For Adequate Light

Chickens need to get adequate exposure to sunlight in order to grow properly. Therefore, it is crucial that you position the chicken house in a way that will give them the most amount of light during the day. However, you do have to protect them from direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day as this can make the chickens uncomfortable. If you have a large chicken house and decide to use window type structures, placing the windows a little high up on the walls of the structure is advisable.

Step Three: Time For Constructing The Chicken House

Once you have perfected the design of the chicken house, you can start building. This may take some time if you don’t have any experience as a do-it-yourselfer, but there are plenty of guides to give you step-by-step, easy to follow plans.

Make sure to allow space for expansion before you start to build a chicken house. There is always the chance that you may want to add more chickens in time, either by buying more or raising chickens of your own, so it would be good to build your structure where there is room for growth in the future.

As I said, there are guides on how to build a chicken house that you can download instantly. It is recommended that you choose a relatively simple plan and follow it carefully. If all goes well, you will be able to finish a complete chicken house within two or three days.
